DENNIS PETERSON

Talent, hard work, determination, and a competitive edge helped Dennis excel in hockey and fastball. Dennis won a Maritime Midget "A" Hockey Championship and was named tournament MVP in 1971 with the East Hants Penguins. He was an all-star goaltender in the Metro Valley Jr. "B" League from 1973-74 & 1974-75 and won a silver medal in hockey at the 1975 Canada Winter Games in Lethbridge, Alberta.
Dennis won three Championships and three Top Goaltender Awards from 1983-86 with the Shubenacadie Eagles of the Truro and District Hockey League. He also won a Maritime Junior Fastball Championship in 1973 with the Brookfield Jr. Elks.
While playing for the Sr. Elks, Dennis hit a home run on the first pitch and won three medals; silver in 1977, bronze in 1978, and gold in 1980. Dennis also won a bronze medal at the Senior Men’s World Fastball Championship in Santa Clara, California while representing Canada in 1981. Additionally, he is a member of the Nova Scotia Sports Hall of Fame.

Growing up, Dawn was a top skater and the first female to ever play on the East Hants Bantam AAA team. As a student athlete, she was one of the top female players in Atlantic Canada and regularly competed on Elite Teams including the Nova Scotia Raiders and Atlantic Selects. Dawn was recruited to play at Berkshire Prep School in Massachusetts, where, as captain of the hockey team, led the school to the New England Championship and was named MVP. Dawn also served as captain of the soccer and lacrosse teams while at Berkshire.
Dawn was an assistant captain for the Nova Scotia Women’s Hockey Team at the 2007 Canada Winter Games in Whitehorse and also played for Team Atlantic at the U-18 Canadian Championships. Dawn was recruited to play NCAA Division I Hockey at the University of Maine, where she served as captain for her junior and senior years. Dawn has paved the way for future generations of female hockey players in East Hants and Nova Scotia to pursue collegiate aspirations.

The East Hants Arena Association is a volunteer non-profit organization formed in the mid-1940s to construct and maintain the original Lantz Arena, opening in 1948. In the 1980s, it was apparent that the Arena (known to many as the “East Hants Barn”) required replacing. With tremendous support from the community, the East Hants Arena Association created the current East Hants Sportsplex which was opened in early 1993.

JOHN EDMUND (JACK) GARDEN

Jack Garden played, coached, organized, and managed sports for a good part of his life in the East Hants area. Whether playing second base for the Enfield Men’s Baseball Team of the early ‘50’s or managing hockey teams, he amassed a trail of player development and winning.
His several accomplishments include: managing the 1959 Eastern Senior Baseball League Champion Enfield Legionnaires; organizing minor baseball in Enfield and East Hants in the early ‘60’s; being a founding member of the East Hants Minor Hockey Association in 1963; and managing and coaching the Halifax Suburban Baseball League Enfield Legionnaire Teams, winning six of seven years from 1963 to 1969.
Jack also managed and coached the Enfield Border League Senior Hockey Team Champion in 1965; the Enfield Juvenile Hockey Team, which developed core players for the 1967/1968 East Hants Jr. Penguins; and managing the 1973/1974 Midget Penguins, the only East Hants Hockey Team to represent the province at a National Tournament.
ENFIELD ELITE LADIES SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION

The Enfield Elite Ladies Softball Association (Enfield Elite) took women’s softball in Nova Scotia to a new level. The association, under the direction of Graham and Dianne Isenor, built consistent powerhouse teams resulting in numerous Provincial and Eastern Canadian titles. They represented the province in five consecutive national championships between 1984-1988 and captured a silver medal in 1987 and a bronze in 1988.
The Enfield Elite earned their spot among the top teams in Canada. Robin grew up in Dutch Settlement where he spent a lot of time in the backyard with his brother, Ryan, improving their skills in softball and hockey. Robin was a talented athlete both on the ice and the softball diamond. In hockey, Robin was twice named player of the game and won a bronze medal at the 1992 Air Canada Cup National Midget Championship. In softball, 1993 was a banner year for Robin. He won a World Junior Championship with Team Canada, was named as Nova Scotia’s flag bearer at the Canada Games, and won a bronze medal at the Canadian Championships. That same year, Robin was runner up for Nova Scotia Male Athlete of the Year. Robin went on to play at a senior level against some of the best players in the country. Today, Robin continues to give back to both sports through his volunteer efforts in the East Hants sport community.
